CHESUCRISTO: The Fusion in Image and Word of Che Guevara and Jesus Christ
After his death, Che Guevara became an icon and was even compared to Jesus Christ. Many images, poems, plays, and films bear witness to this remarkable process, which made studious use of Christian iconography. In this way, Che Guevara became a Christ figure for our times. In order to explain their real affinity, the author examines Jesus as a historical figure and illuminates the convergence with Che. Kunzle weaves together the gospel texts and events with Che-Christic texts, accompanied by a continuous display of Che-Christic art
David Kunzle, educated at Cambridge and London Universities, has taught art history since 1977 at UCLA. He has published widely (thirteen books in several languages) on public, popular, public, comic and revolutionary (Latin American) art.
