SUMMARY:The ‘Religionization' of the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict
DESCRIPTION:There has long been a popular misconception that the conflict between Israelis and Palestinians is driven by religion. This is historically inaccurate\, but religion is having an increasing impact on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict today. In this talk\, Professor Dov Waxman will explore the growing role of religion in the conflict\, and the implications of this trend for the prospect of peace between Israel and the Palestinians \nAs of Jan. 1\, 2020\, Dov Waxman is Professor of Israel Studies\, Director of the UCLA Y&S Nazarian Center for Israel Studies\, and The Rosalinde and Arthur Gilbert Foundation Chair in Israel Studies. His research has focused on the Israeli-Palestine conflict\, Israeli foreign policy\, U.S.-Israel relations\, and Diaspora Jewry’s relationship with Israel. He is the author of several books on these subjects including\, most recently\, The Israeli-Palestinian Conflict: What Everyone Needs to Know (Oxford University Press\, 2019). Previously\, Waxman was the Stotsky Professor of Jewish Historical and Cultural Studies at Northeastern University\, and a professor of Political Science\, International Affairs\, and Israel Studies.
