SUMMARY:Shout to the Lord: Making Worship Music in the Evangelical America
DESCRIPTION:How do people make worship music? What does it take to turn songs into worship and to turn worship into songs? This deep study of more than 75 leaders in Evangelical worship across America sheds light on the way that songwriters\, worship leaders\, and music industry professionals make music that can serve the needs of congregations around the world. \nAri Y Kelman is the inaugural holder of the Jim Joseph Professorship in Education and Jewish Studies in the Stanford Graduate School of Education\, where he also directs the Concentration in Education and Jewish Studies. He holds a courtesy appointment in Religious Studies\, and is a faculty affiliate of the Center for Comparative Studies in Race and Ethnicity\, the American Studies Program\, and the Taube Center for Jewish Studies. His scholarship investigates the ways that people learn to hold religious commitments\, and they have covered a range of topics from Evangelical worship music (Shout to the Lord Making Worship Music in Evangelical America (NYU Press)\, Yiddish Radio (Station Identification: A Cultural History of Yiddish Radio (UC Press) and congregational life (Sacred Strategies: Transforming Synagogues from Functional to Visionary). He is now working on projects that cover the educational dimensions of the church-school divide\, and an article on the Voyager Golden Record. \nEvent Flyer\n\nRSVP Below: \n\n[gravityform id=”77″ title=”false” description=”false”]
